Who We’re Looking For
We recruit: 1) teachers of English who have experience with grades 4 through 8 (ages 9-14) and 2) teachers of Chemistry or Physics who have experience teaching high school (ages 13 through 18). In order to qualify to participate in the Teach in Bhutan program, teachers must meet the following criteria:
- English is your native (i.e., your first, “mother-tongue”) language
- You have either: a post-secondary degree in Education or a pertinent post-secondary degree in English/Physics/Chemistry.
- You have at least three years of full-time relevant classroom teaching experience.
English is the language of instruction in Bhutan, however many students can be considered to be ESL students. Yet teaching in Bhutan is not an ESL teaching experience in the same way that other teach abroad experiences may be. Teachers will be asked to teach English literature and employment preference is given to primary educators, and junior/secondary English and special education specialists.
Please note that ESL qualifications (TESOL/CELTA/TEFL), although useful, will not serve as teaching certification. ESL teachers must have three full-time years of relevant classroom teaching experience.
Applicants do not need to be Canadian citizens to apply to teach in Bhutan. BCF accepts applications from native-English-speaking teachers from all over the world, including Canada, The United States, The United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
