Brick Root was born and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Utah and Colorado. Much of his younger life was spent in these mountains hiking, climbing, backpacking, and skiing. His college years were spent in New Hampshire at Dartmouth College. For the past 20 years Brick has taught at at The Lowell Whiteman School, a small independent school nestled in the Colorado Mountains, that is known for offering small academically rigorous classes along with many experiential activities and trips in the mountains and abroad. More recently Brick spent a season in Antarctica and last summer in Alaska. Two trips with students, one to Sikkim and one to Bhutan, kindled a real interest in the region for Brick. Returning to the area to teach math and science in return for learning from those who thrive in the Himalayan region is his current goal.
