Matt hails from Australia’s bush-capital, Canberra, where he grew up playing all manner of sports and pretending to learn the guitar. After studying history and creative writing in Sydney, he traveled to Tibet, Nepal, and South-West China where he developed his love of teaching whilst working in small rural school in the Himalayas. He returned to Sydney to study education and work in an inner-city youth organisation. He then moved back to Canberra to work as a primary school teacher and indulge his love of hiking, mountain biking, and gardening. Highlights of his teaching time in Canberra have included starting a primary school rock band, a school-wide ukulele program, teaching a fabulous group of seven-year-olds, and (almost) learning to Spongebob.
